Shillelagh

Transmutation
Level: Cantrip
Casting Time: 1 bonus action
Range: Touch
Duration: 1 minute
Components: V, S, M
Materials: Mistletoe, a shamrock leaf, and a club or quarterstaff.

The wood of a club or a quarterstaff you are holding is imbued with nature's power. For the duration, you can use your spellcasting ability instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of melee attacks using that weapon, and the weapon's damage die becomes a d8. The weapon also becomes magical, if it isn't already. The spell ends if you cast it again or if you let go of the weapon.

Player Guide

Shillelagh transforms your dump stat (Strength) into a scaling melee attack using your primary spellcasting ability, making it ideal for Wisdom-based casters like Clerics and Druids. Position yourself in melee where you can use your bonus action for other spells or reactions without penalty, since Shillelagh doesn't consume your action economy. The spell lasts 1 minute with concentration, allowing you to control whether you maintain it through multiple turns or drop it before casting concentration spells. Combine this with spells that don't require concentration to maximize damage output and utility.

DM Tips

Remind players that Shillelagh requires concentration and ends if they cast another concentration spell, preventing stacking with Spiritual Weapon's concentration. Note that it specifically requires holding a club or quarterstaff, so players must commit to a weapon choice rather than using their bonus action weapon.
