Acid Arrow

Evocation
Level: 2nd-level
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 90 feet
Duration: Instantaneous
Components: V, S, M
Materials: Powdered rhubarb leaf and an adder's stomach.

A shimmering green arrow streaks toward a target within range and bursts in a spray of acid. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 4d4 acid damage immediately and 2d4 acid damage at the end of its next turn. On a miss, the arrow splashes the target with acid for half as much of the initial damage and no damage at the end of its next turn.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the damage (both initial and later) increases by 1d4 for each slot level above 2nd.

B-Tier Acid Arrow provides reliable damage with excellent action economy through delayed damage, but lacks the raw burst or control of top-tier 2nd-level spells.

Player Guide

Use Acid Arrow when you need consistent ranged damage without concentration, as the delayed damage on the following turn creates additional pressure on enemies. Position yourself at maximum range (60 feet) to stay safe while reliable hitting targets—the ranged spell attack is easier to land than save-based spells. This spell shines against enemies that can't easily close distance or when you want to maintain focus for a concentration spell, making it ideal for turns when you've already cast a control spell like Web or Hold Person.

DM Tips

Clarify whether the delayed damage triggers even if the target dies or becomes immune before the end of the next turn—most rulings treat it as automatic unless the target is explicitly dead. The 'splash' damage on a miss is only 2d4 and the spell description appears cut off in official text, so confirm with your table whether half damage applies to all targets in a splash radius or just the original target.
