Enchantment

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Duration: 24 hours
Components: V, S, M

This spell lets you convince a beast that you mean it no harm. Choose a beast that you can see within range. It must see and hear you. If the beast's Intelligence is 4 or higher, the spell fails. Otherwise, the beast must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be charmed by you for the spell's duration. If you or one of your companions harms the target, the spells ends.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you can affect one additional beast for each slot level above 1st.

C-Tier Animal Friendship is situational and limited by low-Intelligence beast restrictions, making it unreliable in most combat scenarios.

Player Guide

Use this spell primarily outside combat to gain allies or neutralize beast threats before fighting starts. The spell works best against low-Intelligence creatures like wolves, bears, or giant spiders, but fails against smarter beasts like dragons or owlbears. Time your casting strategically when the beast hasn't yet committed to attacking, as charming it prevents aggression and can turn it into a temporary ally or scout.

DM Tips

Clarify whether a charmed beast remains friendly after the spell ends or reverts to hostile behavior, as this significantly impacts player strategy. Consider that beasts with Intelligence 4+ (like owlbears or winter wolves) automatically fail the spell, so communicate creature intelligence clearly when players consider using it.
