Locate Object
DivinationDescribe or name an object that is familiar to you. You sense the direction to the object's location, as long as that object is within 1,000 feet of you. If the object is in motion, you know the direction of its movement. The spell can locate a specific object known to you, as long as you have seen it up close-within 30 feet-at least once. Alternatively, the spell can locate the nearest object of a particular kind, such as a certain kind of apparel, jewelry, furniture, tool, or weapon. This spell can't locate an object if any thickness of lead, even a thin sheet, blocks a direct path between you and the object.

Player Guide
Cast Locate Object before adventuring to track stolen items, lost companions, or enemy resources across 1,000 feet. Use it to confirm an object's presence in a dungeon before committing to exploration, saving time on dead ends. During combat, it's best used reactively if enemies possess a specific artifact you need to locate or retrieve. The spell's true power lies in preparation and investigation phases rather than active combat tactics.

DM Tips
Require that players have genuinely seen the object before or have a vivid description—vague targeting ('the MacGuffin') should fail. Remember the 1,000-foot range is a hard limit; use this to prevent trivializing dungeon exploration or cross-continent quests.
