Running This Encounter

Axe Beaks are aggressive, flightless birds that attack with their powerful beaks and talons. They are pack hunters and will coordinate attacks on a single target if multiple beaks are present. Use their speed (50 ft.) to kite the party, closing and retreating to maintain pressure. Terrain with obstacles can hamper their mobility advantage.

Combat Tactics

Axe Beaks prioritize charging isolated targets to maximize damage from their multiattack (beak and talons). They flee if reduced below half health but will return if emboldened by pack members. Use hit-and-run tactics with superior speed rather than prolonged melee engagement.

Environment & Setting

Grasslands, badlands, and open plains where the beaks' speed advantage is maximized. Encounters are most effective in semi-open terrain with scattered rocks or vegetation that slow pursuit.
