Guiding Bolt

Evocation
Level: 1st-level
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Duration: 1 round
Components: V, S

A flash of light streaks toward a creature of your choice within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 4d6 radiant damage, and the next attack roll made against this target before the end of your next turn has advantage, thanks to the mystical dim light glittering on the target until then.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 1st.

A-Tier Guiding Bolt excels as a damage-dealing action that directly enables allies' attacks, making it consistently valuable across all party compositions and combat scenarios.

Player Guide

Position yourself where you can safely target enemies, prioritizing foes that your melee allies will attack next turn to maximize the advantage bonus. Use this spell to soften high-priority targets while setting up your party's heavy hitters for guaranteed hits. The spell's dual benefit of solid radiant damage plus tactical advantage makes it efficient action economy, especially before your turn ends and allies haven't acted yet. Against enemies with high AC, the advantage provided to allies often proves more valuable than the damage roll itself.

DM Tips

Remember the advantage bonus lasts until the end of the caster's next turn, not the target's turn, allowing allies to benefit even if the target acts before them. Clarify with players that the advantage applies to the next attack roll against that specific target, regardless of who makes the attack.
