Stinking Cloud

Conjuration
Level: 3rd-level
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 90 feet
Duration: Up to 1 minute
Components: V, S, M
Materials: A rotten egg or several skunk cabbage leaves.

You create a 20-foot-radius sphere of yellow, nauseating gas centered on a point within range. The cloud spreads around corners, and its area is heavily obscured. The cloud lingers in the air for the duration. Each creature that is completely within the cloud at the start of its turn must make a constitution saving throw against poison. On a failed save, the creature spends its action that turn retching and reeling. Creatures that don't need to breathe or are immune to poison automatically succeed on this saving throw. A moderate wind (at least 10 miles per hour) disperses the cloud after 4 rounds. A strong wind (at least 20 miles per hour) disperses it after 1 round.

Spell Details

School: Conjuration
Level: 3
Ritual: No
Concentration: Yes
Classes: Bard, Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
A-Tier Excellent battlefield control that creates difficult terrain for enemies while forcing Con saves, particularly strong in confined spaces.

Player Guide

Position the cloud to split enemy formations and force foes into difficult terrain, as most enemies will flee rather than risk repeated Con saves. Cast before melee to protect your frontline, but coordinate positioning since the spell affects allies too. Use it defensively when outnumbered or to separate dangerous enemies from their support. The 20-foot radius and lingering duration make it ideal for holding chokepoints and corridors.

DM Tips

The cloud moves with wind effects and lingers for concentration duration, so environmental factors matter greatly. Remember that invisible creatures still trigger the save if they enter, which can reveal their position.
