Running This Encounter

Brown bears are territorial and aggressive when threatened or protecting food sources. Use their high HP and damage output to pose a real threat to low-level parties. Position the bear to use its advantage in natural terrain, and consider having it attempt to flee if reduced below half health. Have it prioritize the closest threat, using its Multiattack to deal consistent damage.

Combat Tactics

The bear charges at the nearest party member and uses Multiattack every round, combining a bite and two claw attacks for maximum damage. If cornered or protecting cubs, it fights to the death; otherwise, it may attempt to break combat and flee into nearby woods or water.

Environment & Setting

Ideal in forests, mountains, or near rivers where the bear has natural cover and escape routes. Dense terrain benefits the bear's movement and gives it places to hide or ambush from.
