Running This Encounter

Lions are ambush predators that rely on their pack coordination and overwhelming power. Use terrain like tall grass, rocky outcrops, or cave entrances to conceal them until they strike. Consider using 2-3 lions for a balanced encounter, as they gain advantage from pack tactics. Remember they are carnivorous and territorial, so they attack to kill, not intimidate.

Combat Tactics

Lions prioritize taking down weaker party members with coordinated pounce attacks (Pounce ability deals extra damage and knocks prone). They use their speed (50 ft.) to reposition and flank, gaining advantage on attacks against targets they outnumber. If cornered or grievously wounded, they fight viciously to the death rather than flee.

Environment & Setting

Pride territories include grasslands, savannas, and semi-arid plains with scattered cover and water sources. Caves or rocky lairs work well for single lions protecting cubs or hoarded prey.
