Running This Encounter

Polar bears are apex predators that attack with aggressive determination. Use their thick fur and fat reserves to explain their high AC and HP despite their beast nature. They hunt by ambush, so consider using terrain for surprise rounds. Emphasize the freezing environment and the bear's comfort in it versus the party's struggle.

Combat Tactics

The polar bear charges the closest target and uses Multiattack to bite and claw repeatedly. It will pursue fleeing prey relentlessly but retreats if reduced below 10 HP. Use its swim speed to escape into water if cornered, forcing the party to pursue or abandon the fight.

Environment & Setting

Arctic tundra, frozen lakes, icebergs, and snow-covered mountains provide ideal terrain. The party should face extreme cold conditions simultaneously, making the bear encounter part of a larger survival challenge.
