Fireball

Evocation
Level: 3rd-level
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 150 feet
Duration: Instantaneous
Components: V, S, M
Materials: A tiny ball of bat guano and sulfur.

A bright streak flashes from your pointing finger to a point you choose within range and then blossoms with a low roar into an explosion of flame. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a dexterity saving throw. A target takes 8d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The fire spreads around corners. It ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried.

At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3rd.

Player Guide

Position yourself safely behind allies or at range, targeting clustered enemy formations to maximize hits on multiple foes. Use the 20-foot radius sphere to catch enemies around corners or obstacles they think protect them. Coordinate with allies to avoid friendly fire, and consider using it to control battlefield positioning by forcing enemies away from detonation zones. Save the spell slot for critical moments when 3+ enemies cluster together, as single-target encounters waste its potential.

DM Tips

Remind casters that the spell requires a clear path to the target point; vertical obstacles may block aim depending on your interpretation. Encourage tactical positioning by occasionally placing enemies in caves or forests where the 20-foot radius becomes a liability rather than an advantage.
